Searching the Kendall County Court Docket
Start with whatever paper you already have. A felony charge, a district civil suit, or a family case has a home. It points you to the District Clerk and the district court handling it. Misdemeanors, probate files, and other county-level matters run through the County Clerk instead. Evictions, debt claims, and small claims sit with the right Justice of the Peace precinct. Most fine-only Class C cases land there too. A citation written inside city limits may belong to Boerne or Fair Oaks Ranch Municipal Court.
Once you know the court, go to its official channel. re:SearchTX lets you search Cases, Filings, Text in Documents, and Hearings. District court pages post calendars and coordinator contacts. JP2 publishes a public docket table by year. Each municipal court runs its own citation system. Match any Kendall County court docket result by court and cause number before you assume it is the case you want.
- Identify the court level and case type.
- Preserve the full cause or citation number.
- Search the official statewide or local channel.
- Compare the court, parties, date, type, and status.
- Ask the clerk for the current public filing or certified copy.
Kendall Docket Routes by Case Type
Kendall County splits its clerk duties between two offices. Susan Jackson, the District Clerk, holds the district civil, family, and felony criminal records. Denise Maxwell, the County Clerk, keeps county-court, misdemeanor, juvenile, and probate files. JP and municipal clerks each maintain their own lower-court dockets. Knowing that split will get you further than any generic county search box.
| Need | First route | Confirm with |
|---|---|---|
| Felony or district civil | re:SearchTX or district calendar | District Clerk |
| Misdemeanor or county probate | County court route | County Clerk |
| Eviction, debt, small claim | Correct JP precinct | JP clerk |
| City Class C citation | Boerne or Fair Oaks portal | Municipal clerk |
| Federal case | PACER and WDTX | Federal clerk |
If the court is unclear, work from the issuing agency, the case type, and an address or precinct map. A community name alone cannot pin down the right JP or municipal court.
Inside a Kendall County Court Docket
Think of a docket as a timeline of events in a case. Entries can show a filed pleading, a hearing, a reset, an order, or a disposition. A calendar is narrower. It covers only scheduled events. The full court record goes further and includes the public documents behind those entries. A certified copy adds the clerk's formal certification. Each product answers a different question.
| Cause number | The court's case identifier, including its prefix, year, precinct, and punctuation. |
|---|---|
| Case type | The category or event label, not a full account of the dispute. |
| Filing | A document or action added to the record, if public. |
| Setting | A hearing date and time that may later be reset. |
| Status | A procedural snapshot whose filed order supplies the details. |
| Disposition | The recorded outcome, which should be verified through the judgment or order. |
Every system labels things its own way. re:SearchTX works through Case Details, Filing Details, and Hearing Details, while JP2 lists DATE, TIME, CAUSE #, PLAINTIFF/DEFENDANT, CASE STATUS, and CASE TYPE. Read each docket in its own context.
Two Kendall District Courts Now Operate
Kendall County now has two district courts, the 451st and the 498th. The 498th arrived in 2025. So older county copy describing a single district court is stale. Both courts hold broad authority over civil, family, felony, juvenile, probate, adoption, and related matters. Your case's assignment still decides which calendar and coordinator you use. The official 451st page shows its jurisdiction and setting links.

That page names Judge Kirsten B. Cohoon and coordinator Mateo Santos. Read it beside the newer court's own source. The 498th page confirms Kendall County's second district court.

The 498th page lists Judge Katherine McDaniel and coordinator Nancy Graham. Confirm the case assignment before calling either coordinator.
Courts That Keep Dockets in Kendall County
The two district courts are Texas general-jurisdiction trial courts. Kendall County Court is the constitutional county court. It is not a separately advertised County Court at Law. Four Justice Courts handle limited civil cases, evictions, debt, small claims, and fine-only Class C matters within their authority. Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch Municipal Courts take city-limit Class C traffic and ordinance cases.
The Child Protection Court of South Texas schedules separately at CPDockets. Use it for permitted hearing logistics only, never to republish juvenile or family details. Federal cases sit outside the county structure. Kendall County falls in the San Antonio Division of the Western District of Texas. Federal dockets live in PACER or CM/ECF.
One county, several custodians: the court level controls the clerk, portal, calendar, fees, and access rules.
Kendall Courthouse Names Can Confuse
The main Kendall County Courthouse and the Historical Courthouse sit near each other. They are not the same destination, though. Both the District Clerk and County Clerk work at 201 East San Antonio Avenue. JP1 lists the Historical Courthouse at 204 East San Antonio Avenue, second floor. JP3 operates from the Fawn Valley Annex. JP2 works from its IH-10 West office, and JP4 sits on Amber Drive in Comfort. The county home page provides the official department routes and courthouse navigation.

Confirm the assigned office before you drive over. The District Clerk lists counter hours of 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The County Clerk lists 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closing for lunch from noon to 1:00 p.m.
How to Find Court Dates and Settings
A court date can surface in several places. Try a district calendar, the JP2 posted docket, a municipal citation portal, a filed notice, or an available re:SearchTX hearing result. The date on a filing is not always the hearing date. A citation response date is also distinct from a trial setting or disposition date.
For a district setting, start with the assigned 451st or 498th calendar. The coordinator handles scheduling details while the District Clerk keeps the filed notice and record. The 451st local process runs in steps. You file the motion or pleading, then separately request an oral hearing or submission. Give the coordinator the setting type and time estimate. Once a date is offered, you file a Notice Setting.
For a JP2 civil matter, check the correct year and monthly group. A RESET label means one thing. The prior event moved to a new date; the case did not end. For any other JP or a city case, contact that clerk directly. The detailed Kendall County court dates reference walks through each channel.
No Kendall Docket Result Found
A Kendall County docket search that comes back empty has several possible explanations. The case may sit in the wrong court for your search, the coverage may have a gap, the filing may be too new, or the name may be spelled differently in the record. Restricted cases stay hidden too. So a blank result never proves a case does not exist. re:SearchTX only shows what counties feed it, since participation, the case-management system behind the source, history, case type, and public-access rules all shape what appears. Municipal portals are narrower still. Each one lists only its own city cases.
- Wrong court
- Check felony, misdemeanor, JP, municipal, county, and federal routes separately.
- Wrong identifier
- Preserve every prefix, year digit, precinct number, and punctuation mark.
- Not indexed
- Move from the portal to the responsible clerk's record-search process.
- Restricted
- Sealed, juvenile, adoption, and sensitive records may not appear publicly.
- Stale page
- Confirm the year and seek the latest filed notice or order.
The District Clerk form asks for a case number, and you may not have one. Call the office for instructions. Guessing a number is the one move to avoid.
Public Access to Court Dockets
Texas does not treat court-record access as a single scheme. Judicial-record requests go to the proper custodian under Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12. The Texas Judicial Branch notes that adjudicative case records skip the ordinary Texas Public Information Act request path. Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a covers the presumption of openness plus the sealing procedure for covered court records. Rule 21c handles sensitive data, while Texas Family Code Chapter 58 generally protects juvenile records. Sealing a filing does not scrub the whole docket, though. Even after its filing or attachment is sealed, redacted, or confidential, an event can stay visible on the public docket. The District Clerk posts a local procedure for sealed filings. The paper document is delivered or mailed. It is then scanned and locked in the case-management system once a sealing order issues. That locked document stays out of public view.
Public metadata is not universal document access. Ask the clerk whether the specific docket, order, exhibit, or certified copy is available.
Four Kendall JP Precincts Matter
Kendall County spans about 662.5 square miles. Its court geography mixes a growing county seat, suburban city jurisdiction, smaller communities, and rural JP areas. The 2020 Census counted 44,279 residents. By the 2025 Census estimate, that figure had climbed to 53,289. Those dated numbers describe growth rather than case volume. Even so, they help explain why no single office or database answers every docket need.
Let the citation or the official precinct map settle it. Comfort is a Census-designated place, not an incorporated city with its own municipal court, and JP4 serves from Comfort. A case near Boerne can still belong to a county JP rather than Boerne Municipal Court.
Docket Records at the Clerk's Office
The District Clerk's Record Search form wants the basics. Expect to give party names, case number, estimated date or year, requested information, requester name, email, and phone. Request descriptions run from civil record and felony record to order, judgment, certified or regular copy, and active or disposed case. Think of it as a clerk-assisted request rather than an instant docket viewer. Fees rise with age for criminal and civil searches older than 2010. The posted amount is $5 per person plus $5 per decade. Other copy and certification charges follow Texas Government Code Section 51.318 and the clerk's current schedules. Under the local page, card transactions require identification and cannot be accepted by phone. Confirm the total and the payment method before sending anything.

Kendall Court Filing Is Not Searching
Tyler Technologies eFileTexas handles filing and service. re:SearchTX is a separate public-search layer that sits on top. Filing a document guarantees nothing about its image being public or searchable. The County Clerk's publicsearch.us portal is a third thing entirely, indexing property and official instruments by grantor, grantee, subdivision, document type, document number, recorded date, and OCR text. Knowing which door you are standing at matters.
| System | Use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| eFileTexas | Submit court filings and service | Not a public docket index |
| re:SearchTX | Available cases, filings, text, hearings | Coverage and restrictions vary |
| JP2 docket | Posted Precinct 2 calendar | Not countywide or a full file |
| County Clerk portal | Property and official records | Not a lawsuit search |
Technology has added routes, not merged the courts. A 2025 statewide integration milestone improves the electronic layer, but sealed, juvenile, or excluded records stay out of public reach.
Kendall County Court Dockets by City
Two incorporated cities anchor the Kendall County city docket pages. Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch each run a municipal court for Class C traffic and ordinance matters inside city limits. Their clerks, portals, forms, and response procedures are all separate. The issuing court on the citation controls, not the nearest city name.
Boerne Docket Search
Find Boerne Municipal Court citation routes, court dates, plea and record-request procedures, compliance dismissals, and warrant guidance.
Fair Oaks Ranch Docket Search
Use the Fair Oaks Ranch municipal portal, clerk contacts, city court forms, and appearance rules for local Class C cases.
Comfort sits inside Kendall County as a Census-designated place, not a city with its own court. Its county-level matters go to the county office that handles them, and JP4 takes the cases belonging to that precinct.
Kendall Court Dockets Span Old and New
The working courthouse is a stack of eras. Kendall County's first courthouse went up in 1870 as a German vernacular building, gained an 1886 expansion, and then got a 1909 redesign from Alfred Giles. A restoration later brought modern systems and better access, leading to a 2010 rededication. Today the building holds Recorded Texas Historic Landmark status, sits on the National Register, and carries State Antiquities Landmark recognition too.
Docket access here is just as layered as the building. Justice Court 2 posts year-specific HTML tables. The district courts put out calendars and coordinator contacts. City courts run on Municipal Online Services. Add the statewide portal for electronic case, filing, text, and hearing searches, and you still come back to the clerk for older paper-era or unindexed records.
Boerne became the county seat in 1862, and the clerk offices still sit near the heart of that civic geography. The courthouse is a working public-record location, not a museum piece. One caution applies before any visit. Distinguish the main courthouse from the Historical Courthouse so you show up at the right door.
Recent changes make dates matter. A second district court began operating in 2025, so older pages describing a single district court no longer match reality. A May 5, 2026 commissioners agenda put justice-system space needs in front of officials from both district courts, the District Clerk, County Clerk, and Criminal District Attorney. That agenda documents a live capacity discussion. It does not prove a backlog or promise any building project.
Read activity reports with the same skepticism. A jail booking is not a court filing. A posted JP calendar is not a countywide case count. State court statistics rely on defined reporting periods and columns, so they can sketch the system but cannot tell you whether one case is open, whether a hearing will happen, or what an order actually says. For those answers, return to the current Kendall County court docket and its clerk.
Map and Directions to the Kendall County Courthouse
District Clerk Susan Jackson keeps 451st and 498th Judicial District Court felony, civil, and family files at 201 East San Antonio Avenue, Suite 201, in downtown Boerne. County Clerk Denise Maxwell keeps county-court, misdemeanor, juvenile, and probate files in the same building at Suite 127. The Historical Courthouse two blocks away at 204 East San Antonio Avenue, second floor, houses JP1, so a JP1 traffic or civil matter is not filed at this address.
